News MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE ANNOUNCE NOMINEES

This years Mercury Music Prize nominees for albums of the year 2010 have been announced. Currently called the Barclaycard Mercury Prize is an annual music prize awarded for the best album from the United Kingdom or Ireland. This years nominees includes the mod father Paul Weller, previous winner Dizzee Rascal and the favorites The XX who will all throw there hats in the ring for the award and prize money which im sure will go to good use.

The prize can catapult the artist that wins either in the main stream or push them down further underground. Past winners who have faded into the background include Talvin Singh (1999) Ms dynamite(2002) and last years winner Speech Debelle (2009) who all failed to build on there initial success.

The search for new talent from across the country and Hull begins

In universities and community centres all across Britain starts the search for new and interesting talent has started. Unlike the X factor anyone is welcome and they do not Evan have to have a sad story contacted to them and it will not be the most important thing they have done in life EVER. The event engorges young people with talent and interest in song writing, music production and playing to develop there skills in a number of workshops. The events city showcase, is sponsored by Hull university will take place in London, will a give the chance to a number of local artist and bands to perform songs which will be critiqued by a panel comprising successful songwriters, artists and professionals from different branches of the industry. Peter Hook's unknown pleasures tour date set for Hull Truck Theatre (2nd May)

One time New Order bass player Peter Hook is set to host a new speaking tour featuring Howard Marks. The tour which includes a date at Hulls newly opened will consist of a little music followed by tales from Peter Hook himself about the heady day of the Factory night club and the aftermath. The challenge might be if Peter can remember every detail from a certain era but is sure to be entertaining whatever happens

Hull band the neat have taken the next step towards nationalrecognition by singing to the newly created CHEWING GUM RECORDS. The record label founded by Ricky Wilson and Co have made the Neat there first signing to the new label based in Leeds and with singings of the new single in London and The Lamp Hull there are sure to go a long way

SPRINGBOARD FREE LIVE MUSIC FESTIVAL 2010 (27th-30th of May)

This year Cottingham free live music festival is just weeks away from its start with the usual raft of local and international artists gracing its stages. The event is taken place in various venues around the Cottingham area. The venues include The King William IV, The Hallgate Tavern, The Blue Bell, The Duke Of Cumberland, The Cross Keys, and The Railway. The event which is in its 4th year now will include over 170 acts appearing in the above venues, artists appearing on stage include Sam Carter - the winner of Radio 2 Horizon Folk award, Adrian Byron Burns who has appeared with such acts as BB King and Neil young. As well as the international acts a there is also strong roster of local artists including The Jokers, The GST Cardinals, Jody Mckenna, Tom Kay and many many more.
